Willard Hawley Falls a Victim to La Grippe. Hon. Willard Hawley, of Keene, who was serving his second term as representative in the state legislature, died at Lansing about six o’clock this morning. Mr. Hawley was born at Brantford, Ontario, December 28, 1834, and has been a resident of Michigan 36 years. Mr. Hawley has filled many local offices acceptably, having been supervisor several terms, and he stood very high in the confidence and esteem of the people of his section. He was a man true to his convictions of right and justice, and as a legislator was unswerving in his devotion to the interests of the farmers as he understood them. He was conscientious in the discharge of all his duties in life, and belonged to the not over-numerous class of those who may be styled in the highest sense as “good men.” The remains arrived here on the 3:55 train. The house adjourned today out of respect to the deceased member, and the following legislative committee accompanied the remains to this city, viz: Representatives Spencer, Swift, Tinklepaugh, Jackson, Gibbons and Doremus. The funeral will be held at Saranac, at 1 p.m. Saturday, and the house of representatives will attend in a body.
