A. Hawley Dies Here Mrs. Edith E. Hawley, 94, widow of the last Circuit Judge Royal A. Hawley, died at her home 160 East Washington, Ionia, Wednesday evening after an illness of six months. Mrs. Hawley had been one of the most active women in Ionia society during her younger years having in one way or another directed most women's organizations. She was a native of Winn, near Mt. Pleasant, and was born there July 26, 1872, the daughter of Thomas G. and Clarissa Jenner. A teacher for many years, Mrs. Hawley was married in Ionia February 2, 1916 to Mr. Hawley who was then an Ionia attorney. He served later as judge of the Ionia-Montcalm circuit for many years. Mrs. Hawley began teaching school when she was 15 to obtain funds for her further education. She was graduated from Mt. Pleasant Normal and earned degrees at Ferris Institute, Michigan State and the University of Michigan. She was a member of the first graduating class at Mt. Pleasant Normal to receive life teaching certificates. She taught in Mt. Pleasant, Dowagiac and Midland public schools and was principal of Ionia County Normal five years.
