Hawley, pioneer resident of Ionia county, and a resident of Lyons township for 75 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. M. Marsh, 251 East Washington street, Ionia, late Tuesday night, March 14. He had been ill of influenza since Saturday. Mr. Hawley, who was 85, was born in Avon, New York, March 8, 1854. In 1875 he was united in marriage with Dora Warner, who died in February 1935. He was engaged in the elevator business at Lyons for many years, retiring about 20 years ago. Surviving besides the daughter, Mrs. Marsh, are two half sisters and a half brother, Mrs. Corrine Abbey of Kansas City; Mrs. Bradley of Chicago, and Walter Hawley of Grand Rapids. Rev. A. J. Westmaas will conduct the funeral service from the home of Dr. and Mrs. F. M. Marsh at two o’clock Friday afternoon, March 17, burial at Lyons. Pall bearers will be Fred Mason, Victor Wheaton, S. Wilson Keefer, Laurence Hale, John Shoemaker, and E. S. Fuller.
