E. Hawley, 71, died at his home in Miles City, Montana, Wednesday, July 28, after a brief illness. Mr. Hawley was born on the old Hawley homestead in Keene township and spent his early life in Ionia. For several years he was a partner of his brother, Judge Royal Hawley in the law firm of Hawley and Hawley. On June 28, 1900 he was united in marriage with Miss Etna M. Wooden of Portland, and one son, Richard, was born to them. Mrs. Hawley died in 1908. That year Mr. Hawley entered the employ of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul RR Co., and remained with them until his retirement in 1937. From 1908 until 1917 he was located at Tacoma, Washington. In 1917 he was transferred to Miles City, Montana, as supervisor of air on lines west. In 1917 Mr. Hawley was married to Miss Josephine Slaughter of Salem, Oregon who, with his son Richard of Ionia survives him. Funeral service was held at the home in Miles City last Saturday and committal service was held at Highland Park cemetery, Ionia, at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 4. Rev. F. G. Dunbar of the Methodist church conducted the service. Bearers were Mayor Clarence S. Johnson, D. W. Ackerman, William Bannon, Anthony Basso, Herman Kreis and James B. Pierce.
