Hawley, 70, of Lynn Haven, Florida fought a mighty battle and went bravely into the night on April 7, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his family. Rex was born December 29, 1936 in Ionia, Michigan, a son of the late Richard and Margaret Kohn Hawley. Rex attended Ionia High School and Central Michigan University. As a true patriot, he entered the United States Army upon his college graduation in 1959, having proudly given 22 years of dedication to his country. After 2 tours in Viet Nam, he retired as a Lt. Col. In the Airborne Infantry. Rex was a resident of Bay County for 25 years. He taught history and geography at Merritt Brown Middle School for 7 years. He is an active member of Lynn Haven United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman and was first mate on his son’s charter fishing boat. Survivors include his wife (high school sweetheart) of 48 years, Mary Lou Starks Hawley; one son, Curtis R. Hawley: grandson, Cole R. Hawley: one daughter, Valerie Jenkins & husband Hal;. granddaughters, Jennifer McKeller & husband Major Jason, and Christina Hammond; grandsons, Chad Jenkins & Adam Jenkins, brother, Richard R. Hawley of Spokane, Wash., sister-in-law, Carol Hawley of Ionia, Mich., and many special nieces and nephews. Mr. Hawley was preceded in death by a brother Willard Hawley & granddaughter Skyler Hawley. Funeral services will be held April 11, 2007, at 2:00p.m at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tues., April 10, 2007 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
