Fr. William J. Hayden, 84, died Saturday, May 22, at 8:15 p.m. at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing. He was born May 10, 1870 in Hubbardston and was ordained to the priesthood July 1, 1900, after studying at Assumption College in Windsor, Ontario. He was pastor at St. Joseph parish of Watervliet and its mission and St. Alphonsis parish at Deerfield before going to Hudson where he was pastor for 23 years. Because of ill health he then resided and served at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing until the time of his death. He is survived by his nephew, John W. Hayden and Mrs. Hayden, two grand nieces, Patricia and Ellen Hayden and two grand nephews, James and Johnny Joe Hayden of Ionia. The body will repose at his old homestead at Hubbardston until Tuesday afternoon when it will be taken to St. John the Baptist church in Hubbardston where he will lie in state until the services Wednesday morning. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. with the Office of the Dead followed by Solemn Requiem Mass. Interment will be at St. John the Baptist cemetery in Hubbardston.
