Ionia Sentinel Standard, 30 Jun 1958

Mrs. Jessie Elizabeth Hayes, 85, died Monday morning at the Hawley convalescent 
home in Muir.

Born June 9, 1873, she was the daughter of Henry and Philinda (Taft) Crowell.  
She attended Ionia schools.  June 28, 1893, she was married to Jerry C. Hayes.  
They lived in Chicago, Ill. and Lansing before moving to Detroit in 1906.  Mr. 
Hayes was in the real estate business there.  He died in 1950, and Mrs. Hayes 
moved to Muir the same year.

She was a member of the Metropolitan Methodist Episcopal church of Detroit, 
Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of 1812.

Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. H. Glenn (Ruth) Holmes of Los Gatos, Calif., 
Mrs. Ethel M. Hagadorn of Mt. View, Calif., Mrs. Lelah Knapp and Mrs. Lulu 
Snyder of Ionia, and several nieces and nephews.  A brother, Frank, died in 
1917.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Stone-Kauffman 
funeral home.  Interment is to be at North Plains cemetery.
