(Brad) Hayes, one of the best known farmers in this part of the state, and a pioneer of North Plains township, died at his home north of Muir Wednesday night of last week. He spent the past winter in Florida, and while it was known he was not in good health, still his death came as a shock to his family and many friends. Mr. Hayes was 86 years of age and came to North Plains township with his parents when a small boy. He was actively connected with the early lumbering days of this county and owned extensive lumber mills in Muir at one time. He was elected to the state legislature in 1876. He is survived by a widow and four sons: George B., H. Jay and Jerry C. of Detroit and Austin C., who manages the farm north of Muir, one of the best in the county.
