Ionia Standard, 20 Feb 1914

A.J. Hayes of Detroit died Monday at Wayne hotel, in that city, of which he was 
assistant manager, his brother, J.R. being the proprietor.  He was 55 years old, 
and was born in Grand Rapids.  His wife was Anna, eldest daughter of Michael J. 
Garrity, and he was a frequent visitor in Ionia.  Besides his wife he leaves four 
children: Mrs. Michael J. O’Brien of Duluth, Mrs. George Rogers, Mrs. Lucien Wry 
and William, all of Detroit.  Remains were brought here Thursday on 11:05 train, 
for interment at Mt. Olivet.
