Hayes, 80, of 341 Fargo died Monday afternoon at Ionia County Memorial hospital following an extended illness. He had lived at his present address the past 24 years after coming to Ionia as a child. He was born in Ovid, March 22, 1888. May 22, 1920 he was married in Lowell to Ivah Smith. He was a member of the I. H. Mission on Washington street. He retired from Ionia State hospital in April 1948 where he had been employed 34 years. Besides his wife Ivah he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Robert Culver of Lake Odessa, Mrs. Jack High and Mrs. Leonard Schwab of Ionia; two sons, Dale L. of Bloomington, Minn. and Robert L. of Ionia; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Minnie Smith of Owosso and Mrs. Nina Hyde of Lake Odessa. One son Emery was killed in the service, October 9, 1944. Funeral services will be at Meyers funeral home Thursday at 2 pm. Rev. Nathan Hawks will officiate and interment will be at Woodard Lake cemetery. Family will be at the funeral home Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:30 until 9 pm.
