He was taken to Ionia County Memorial hospital in Ionia but was pronounced dead on arrival. He had been in ill health for some time. He was born in Allegan county, June 21, 1906, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Hayes, and came to Lyons in 1929 where he was married to Norma Earl August 16, 1931. He had resided in Lyons since his marriage. Mr. Hayes worked for a road construction company and for the past year had maintained a woodworking and hobby shop. He was past worshipful master of Lyons lodge F&AM and in the past year was appointed a member of the board of general purposes of the grand lodge F&AM of Michigan. He served as secretary of Lyons lodge 10 years and was past high priest of Royal Arch Masons, and past patron of Lyons OES. He was also a member of Ionia Rifle club. Surviving are his wife, Norma; two daughters, Mrs. Donald Smith of Lansing, and Mrs. Gary Mathews of Ionia; one granddaughter; his father, Bruce Hayes of Pullman; a sister, Mrs. Reuben Bensinger of Allegan, and three brothers, Donavan Hayes of Allegan, Dorwin Hayes of Grand Junctions, and Alfred Hayes of Richmond Hills, Ga. The body will remain at Shaw-Rivett funeral home until Monday noon when it will be taken to Lyons Methodist church. Service will be at 2 p.m., with entombment in the mausoleum at Muir cemetery.
