March 30, 1950 Former resident Dies in Hastings Bert Hayner, 62, an employee of the E. W. Bliss Co. at Hastings many years, died in Pennock hosptial early Saturday morning shortly after admission. He had suffered a stroke Friday while at work. He was a former resident of Lake Odessa, and Freeport and had farmed in Barry county for about forty years, leaving the farm on M-43 in 1944 to move to Hastings. He was a member of the Hastings I.O.O.F. lodge No. 58 and Hiawatha Rebekah lodge No. 53 and was a past Noble Grand of the Oddfellows and had been a member for the past thirty years. Surviving are his wife, Arloa; a son, Burdette; and a daughter, Mrs. Marion Blackford, and five grandchildren of Hastings, three half brothers and a half sister. Funeral services were held Monday at the Leonard funeral home in Hastings with burial in Freeport cemetery.
