Hazel Passes Away Alfred T. Hazel, 96, passed away early Monday morning at his home at 1416 Harrison St. A native of Essex, England, he came with his parents Geo. and Harriet Hazel to the local area at the age of three. A retired drain commissioner, he was also the first postmaster at Odessa Center where he operated a general store years ago. He married Anna Sickles on January 16, 1895 and for the past 41 years have lived in the village. Mr. Hazel was a life member of the Lake Odessa IOOF Lodge and served as secretary of the lodge for many years. Surviving are his wife Anna L; three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Fern) Soper of Flint, Mrs. Charles (Frances) Harriett of Grosse Pointe and Mrs. Gerald (Pearl) Bretz of Detroit; five sons Clare of Detroit, Lee of Comstock Park, Richard of Palm Harbor, Fla.; Russell and Robert of Lake Odessa; 21 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; a sister Mrs. Anna Shattuck of Owosso; two brothers Charles of Lake Odessa and Oliver of Lansing. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:30 at the Pickens Funeral Chapel with burial in Lakeside cemetery.
