She went to Portland soon after the death of her husband, George Hazel, 23 years ago, to reside with the daughter. She was in poor health at the time but after seven years in bed her condition had improved. There were seven more years when she was able to be about but the change was not permanent and she took to her bed again, there to remain until the end came. Mrs. Hazel was born in England 85 years ago. Her husband came to this country first, settling near what is now lake Odessa. A few months later he sent for his wife and three children, one of them was Mrs. Blackman. Other children are Alfred, Lake Odessa: William, Jackson: Charles and Oliver Hazel, Portland: mrs. John Stalter, Lake Odessa: Mrs. O. B. Shattuck, Cincinnati. Arthur Clark of Lake Odessa is a nephew, having come from England a few years ago. George Hazel, another son, was killed by a Grand Trunk train while attempting to cross the tracks at Lowell a few months ago.
