Hazlett, 76, of East Lansing, formerly of Belding, passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2006. He was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Judson, Ind., the son of Orville and Edith Thompson Hazlett. He received a bachelor of arts degree cum laude from Lincoln Bible Institute, where he was president of the student body. He later received a teaching certificate from Xavier University in Cincinnati. In 1950 he was ordained a minister of the Church of Christ and ministered at churches in Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio. In 1960 he and his family moved to East Lansing, where he preached at the University Christian Church. He joined the professional staff of the Chief Okemos Council, Boy Scouts of America, in 1961. While there he served Scouting in Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties. He later served as fundraiser, trainer and camping director in the Detroit and Grand Rapids area councils. Dwight married Hatte Reedy in 1950. Dwight was preceded in death by his wife, Hatte, after 53 years of marriage. He is survived by his son, Mark and Shirley Hazlett; daughter, Cathy and Dennis Moran; grandchildren, Robin Schneider and Mark Stewart, George and Staci Schneider, Christopher Wilkins, Faith Wilkins, Matthew Wilkins, great-grandchildren, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Alexander, Claire, Morgan and Mark. At the time of his death, Dwight resided with his daughter and son-in-law and was under the care of Sparrow Hospice. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Congregational Church, Belding, with the Rev. Bill Freeman officiating, followed by graveside services at 3 p.m. at the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church of Belding or Alvah N. Belding Library, both of which were very important to Mr. and Mrs. Hazlett. Dwight waged a long, courageous battle with cancer. He will be missed by his many friends and family. Care and service were entrusted to Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, 203 Pleasant St., Belding.
