She was a noble woman; there are few of the older residents of the community who did not know her, and none could know her but to esteem her for social and motherly qualities. She has been a resident of Ionia for more than 65 years, emigrating with her parents (among the very first settlers) to the then mere settlement, in the fall of 1833. She was born in New York state on February 19, 1820, and was therefore near unto her 79th full year. She was the relict of Mason Hearsey, who died some sixteen years ago. Four children were born to this union: Roscoe A. of this city, Mrs. Gertrude M. Daniels of Cedarville, Calif., Herbert who died in childhood, and Mason E. of Oakland, Cal. She was the last of a large family of children, nearly all of whom lived to old age. In her girlhood days, and on through her years of womanhood, she was a devout and devoted worker in the affairs of the Baptist society, and at the time of her death was the oldest member of that society. Deceased united with this church more than sixty years ago. Hers was a life of usefulness, and she was a consistent believer to the end. The funeral will be attended from the residence where she died, 656 West Main St., at 2 o’clock on Saturday afternoon.
