Miss Hearsey had gone there three weeks ago Thursday for an operation to remove the cataract from her eye, and her messages to Ionia conveyed the news that she had made a most satisfactory recovery, and had planned to return home this week. About the time that the funeral party was leaving the hospital for Ionia cards were pouring into the hospital from Ionia friends who had planned a shower for her to reach her before she returned home. Miss Hearsey was born in Ionia March 4, 1863 and had lived her life here with the exception of the brief periods while she was away during the millinery seasons working at her trade, that of a milliner. She was of a retiring disposition, but possessed a wealth of friends. She was a member of the First Baptist church and devoted to its auxiliaries, but the past few years the care of her mother during her feeble years was her paramount interest. About the time that her mother died Miss Hearsey’s eyesight began failing and the success of the operation performed a few days ago caused her to look happily forward to her return to Ionia and her friends. A brother W.H. Hearsey East Main street is her only near relative. The body was brought to Ionia Tuesday afternoon but the funeral arrangements had not been made. Miss Hearsey was a daughter of Roscoe A. Hearsey, and a grand-daughter of Mason and Caroline Cornell Hearsey Ionia pioneers. Mason Hearsey settled on part of what is now the Babcock farm west of Ionia and in an early day and the family were for many years among the prominent and respected residents of early Ionia.
