Heaton, 54, of Belding, passed away on Sunday evening December 7, 2014 surrounded by his family at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Alan was born on May 5, 1960 in Pontiac, the son of Robert W. and Jean E. (Chaplin) Heaton. Alan graduated from Saranac High School with the Class of 1978. He was married on August 16, 1980 near Saranac to Shirley Allen. For many years he has owned and operated the family well drilling company “AB Heaton and Sons.” Alan thoroughly loved his work, having drilled and completed his first well at the age of 16. He gave excellent service and went above and beyond to help anyone with a problem with their well. Alan would gladly help his family and friends on any project that they were working on. He was a member of the Michigan Ground Water Association, Belding and Greenville Chambers of Commerce and the Fellowship Club of Smyrna. He attended Green Corners Baptist Church. Alan also enjoyed, golf, bowling, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. He had a true love of family and friends and will be greatly missed by everyone. Alan is loved and survived by his wife Shirley and their children; Stacy (Michael) DeBoer of DeWitt, Christopher (Hannah) Heaton of Belding, grandchildren; Ella, Levi and Austin, mother; Jean (David) Englund of Belding, brothers; Jon (Cindy) Heaton of Greenville, Robin (Cecily) Heaton of Belding, Jody (Tonya) Heaton of Caledonia, Jason (Sarah) Heaton of Belding, and Shirley’s family; Etta Allen, William Allen (Sheryl), Linda Howorth, Connie (Alan) Martin, Jon Allen (Connie), Karen (Dave) Bowen, several nieces and nephews and countless friends. Alan was preceded by his father, grandparents, father-in-law Ernest Allen and sister-in- law Joyce Allen. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Shiloh Community Church with Pastor Paul Leslie officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday 2-8 p.m. at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Committal Prayers will take place in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the B Foundation or the National Marrow Donor Program.
