Lois was born in Saranac June 20th, 1934, the daughter of Sheldon (Red) and Freda Myers. She attended Saranac Public School and graduated salutatorian of her class. She married Donald (Bud) Heaven in 1954. Lois and Bud were very active in veterans organizations in the area. She continued to be actively involved even after her husband’s death in 1992. Lois loved to cook; she cooked for and managed several restaurants in the area. She owned Kathy’s Kitchen in Saranac for 15 years. After she retired, she continued to cater monthly dinners for Saranac Seniors. Lois was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of Portland unit 129 for 28 years and belonged to Saranac unit 175 at the time of her death. She was a member of the Saranac VFW for many years and belonged to the Portland VFW at the time of her death. She was president of the 8th district several years, as well as holding all offices in the district many times. Lois was a partner of the 8 et 40 Auxiliary, Salon 726, for 16 years. She held the office of Chapeau of Salon 726 for several years, Chapeau La Departmental of Michigan, as well as a national chairmanship for the Nurses Scholarship fund. At the time of her death, she was Chapeau of Salon 726. Lois is survived by two children, daughter Linda Cooper of Lansing, and son Michael (Cathy) Heaven of Grayling. She is also survived by four sisters; Ione Pant of Cadillac, Lorna Myers of Montpelier Ohio, Brenda (Dan) Bush of Dimondale, Sherri (Frank) Rasmus of Saranac and sister-in-law Jane Myers of Lowell. She has 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Special friends are Gary and Wanda Lippert. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28th at Galilee Baptist Church in Saranac with Reverend James Frank officiating. Visitation will be Friday, January 27th from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan or to Salon 726 Nurses Scholarship Fund.
