Dick was born in Campbell Twp., Ionia County, on December 21, 1913, to Seymour and Cora A (White) Heaven. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1933, and married Frances Wright on November 25, 1936. Frances preceded him in death on January 23, 1976. Dick and Frances moved to the Ypsilanti area in 1942 where he was proud to work at Willow Run making the B-24 bombers. Following the war, Dick remained in Ypsilanti and worked as a carpenter until his retirement in 1979. Dick married Eleanor Beukema in 1977 and moved back to Clarksville in 1981. In his retirement years, Dick served as a volunteer fireman in Clarksville until he turned 90; served on the Clarksville Village Council and acted as Street Commissioner; was active in the Clarksville Lions Club, was instrumental in founding, and served on the Board of Directors of the Bear Creek Villa, was a founding member of the Clarksville Steam and Gas Engine Association; was an active member of the Clarksville and Lake Odessa Historical Societies; and served on the Ionia County Economic Development Commission. Dick’s involvement and influence extended into many areas, but most important to him were his faith and trust in God, and the love he had for his family. Dick is survived by his wife, Eleanor; children, Joseph (Rita) Heaven, Linda (Robert) Soulliere, David Heaven, and Susan (David) Vasher; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Frances. The funeral service was held on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at the South Boston Bible Church with Rev. Ronald Tuinstra officiating. Burial took place at Washtenong Cemetery in Ann Arbor. The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the South Boston Bible Church, or Heartland Child Evangelism Fellowship.
