March 15, 2017 WILLIAM R.HECHT SR. 1919-2017 William R. Hecht Sr.,aged 97, of Saranac, passed away March 14, 2017. He was born July 28, 1919, in Ionia, the son of William F. and Edith (Patterson) Hecht. Bill married Greta Underwood Oct. 24, 1940, in Ionia, she preceded him in death in 1988. He later married Evelyn Curtis on June 9, 1991, in Hastings. Bill served in the Navy during World war II on the Seabees, seeing time in Guam, Japan, and Pearl Harbor. He operated his own dairy farm most of his life until retirement in 1982. Bill was a member of American Legion Post 45 in Hastings. He attended Berlin Center Church. Bill loved fishing, hunting, a good joke and he was a great story teller. Surviving are hi wife, Evelyn Hecht of Saranac. Children, Bill (Jean) Hecht Jr. of Saranac, Mike Hecht of Florida, Barb (Gregg) Hotchkiss of Saranac and Tom (Joy) Hecht of Saranac; step-children, Wendy (Mike) Hamlin of Florida, Cindy Harrold of Hastings and Bruce (Cindy) Curtis of Hastings; grandchildren, Sandy Hecht, Steve (Lynn) Hecht, Michelle Gingrich, Angie (Troy) Stanton, Ralph (Erica) Reagan, Jody Baars and Jeff Baars; 15 great-grandchildren, and 14 great- great-grandchildren.; sister-in-law, Mezella Underwood; special friend, Pat Fedewa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Greta; son Gary L. Hecht; brothers Lloyd Harold, Fred and Erford; sisters Grace, Beulah, Edith, Elizabeth and Ethel. grandson Jamie Baars, great-great-grandson Ashton Hart and special friend Don Kauffman. Funeral services for Bill will be held Monday, March 20, 2017, 1 p.m. at the Lake funeral Home in Ionia with Pastor mark Johnson officiating. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday 4-7 p.m. at the Lake Funeral home. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Sparrow-Ionia Hospice or Berlin center Church.Online.
