Mrs. William Hecox Died Sunday Morning After Illness Of Several Years. Husband and One Son Jno. B. Hecox Survive Born In Ohio But Had Lived In This Community Three Quarters Of A Century. Mrs. William Hecox, 85 years of age last October, died at her home in the east part of the village Sunday morning following an illness that had kept her confined to the house for several years. Funeral services were held at the Neller funeral home Tuesday afternoon in charge of Rev. John H. Stewart. Burial was made in Portland cemetery. Mrs. Hecox’s maiden name was Mary Dunham. She was born in a small town in Ohio, October 16, 1848. When a small girl she came to Michigan with her parents, the family settling in Roxand township, Eaton county. Sixty-three years ago the 31st of last December she was united in marriage to William Hecox, the couple celebrating the golden anniversary of that union 13 years ago. Although illness kept her confined to her home during the past several years she was always of a cheerful disposition despite that handicap and was devotedly cared for by her husband and son, Postmaster John B. Hecox, who survive her. Mrs. Hecox was a woman who invested her life in the worthwhile things. She invested it in her home, which was the place she primarily loved. The general affection for her and the appreciation of her fine character were manifested in the large number of friends who gathered with members of the family at the Neller funeral home Tuesday afternoon for her funeral services. Those who acted as pallbearers and bore her body to its last resting place were James Plumb, O. O. Barton, John Barton, Fred England, Chester Banchard and Dr. W. H. McBride.
