He was born January 6, 1897 in Chicago, Ill. A veteran of World War I, he was wounded in France and was awarded the purple heart. He served throughout World War II as a communications engineer in Washington, D.C. and throughout the Western Hemisphere. Active in local organizations, he was a member of Masonic lodge 36, Ionia chapter 14 Royal Arch Masons, Ionia Commandery 11 of Knights Templar, American Legion, National Rifle association and Western Rifle and Pistol association. His wife, Ione K. Hecox preceded him in death March 9, 1963. He leaves a son Hugh V. A. Hecox; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Becker of Crystal River, Fla., and Mrs. Ruth H. O’Byrne of Oak Park, Ill. Memorial services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Boynton funeral home. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
