Aug. 26, 2017 HOWARD L. HEFFELBOWER Hastings, MI - Howard L. Heffelbower, age 94, of Hastings, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017. Howard loved his family, his country, and farming. Howard was born in Clarksville on November 4, 1922 to Louis and Loretta (Jackson) Heffelbower. He was the youngest and last survivor of seven children. In 1947, Howard married Roxie Grovenor and together they raised four children. In 2013, Roxie preceded him in death. He most looked forward to the day when the Lord brought them back together. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, Howard served in World War II in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Jackson-Mutschler VFW Post in lake Odessa, and rarely missed participation in the Clarksville and lake Odessa parades. Howard was honored for his WW II military service in 2013 by serving as a Grand Marshall in the Lake Odessa fair parade. Howard and Roxie were full-time dairy farmers while raising their family. they were active in the Michigan Milk Producers Association and enjoyed international travels with the MMPA. In recognition of their lifelong commitment to supporting the Michigan farming community, Howard and Roxie were inducted to the Michigan Farmers Hall of Fame in 1994. Howard also loved square dancing, hunting, fishing, gardening (tending his own garden until 90), and making people laugh (especially children). Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his six siblings, Mildred Stalter, Leta Kyser, Elvin Heffelbower, Julia Dukes, June McDiarmid, Cleone Reigler, and his grandson Timothy Fawley. Howard will be greatly missed by his four children, Sharon (Ken) Fawley, Richard (Joan) Heffelbower, Shirley (Bob) Slocum and Margaret Heffelbower (Floyd Misner). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
