Heffron, 74, of Grattan Township, Belding, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, April 23, 2005, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus, Grand Rapids. Clayton was born June 6, 1930, in Belding, the son of Thomas and Cecilia Honson Heffron. He graduated from St. Patrick High School with the class of 1948. Clayton had many accomplishments during his long agricultural career. He was one of five men who founded Cherry Central and later North Bay Produce, companies located in Traverse City. In 1970 he helped start H&W farms west of Belding. Clayton was co-owner of the Travel Gallery and Midwest Fertilizer Co. He had served on the board of education for Grattan Schools. Clayton was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parnell and had done many acts of kindness to the church during his many years of membership. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always had a twinkle in his eye and a warm smile. While his first love was for family, he also had a strong love for his church, farming and his many friends. He was married on Feb. 9, 1952, to Mary Louise Crowley. He is survived by his wife; their children, Janice and Brad Sykes of Grand Ledge, Sheila and George Wright, Timothy and Janet Heffron, Christina Louise Heffron, all of Belding; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; siblings; Phillip and Mary Lou Heffron of Belding, Alberta Heffron of Cascade; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Heffron of Eagle; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Ed Wild; and brother, Edward Heffron. Mass of Christian burial will be offered 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Parnell, with Father Rock Badgerow presiding. Interment is in St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding Memorial contributions may be given to the Carmelite Order in Parnell or the Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding in Rockford. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mass cards also will be available for Clayton.
