Yvonne was born in Lansing on Nov. 18, 1919 to Vernon and Edna (Bever) Klingman. Vernon was born near Lake Odessa, and they return to the family farm in 1926. Yvonne and Irwin Heidrick were married on Oct. 2, 1942. They lived and farmed near Clarksville and then moved to the farm west of Lake Odessa in 1954, where they stayed the rest of their lives. Yvonne attended Nye Country School (now known as Cunningham’s Acre) located across the road from her home, and graduated from the Lake Odessa High School in 1938. She worked at the Lake Odessa Canning Factory with her mother and spent a short time in California as a housekeeper (going to many movies on her day off). She returned to Michigan and worked at AC Spark Plug (later known as A.O. Smith) until 1967, in addition to being a farm wife! She was loved and treasured by many. Irwin and Yvonne enjoyed traveling to the United States and Canada after selling the dairy herd in 1970. Yvonne especially loved “rocky” mountains and long winding roads. They took many trips and spent time at various lakes with their friends, the Leo Vromans and Chris Fahrnis. In later years, Yvonne and Irwin discovered the fun of dancing at Cunningham’s Acre, enjoyed the music and made many new friends. Yvonne was proud of the role that she and her husband, Irwin, played in helping to start and establish the Lake Odessa and Clarksville libraries. They received the State Rural Library Community Leader Award in 1995 for their efforts. Yvonne was an avid reader her whole life. Some of her favorite authors included Zane Grey, Francis Parkinson Keyes, Taylor Caldwell, and Norah Lofts. She is survived by two daughters, Dana (Lance) Heidrick Nishihara of Oakland, Calif., and Janice (Shelley) Heidrick McCall of Franktown, Colo. Yvonne was predeceased by her loving husband, Irwin, in 2006. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. In memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Sept.24 at 10 a.m. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to either the Friends of the Lake Odessa Library, or the Friends of the Clarksville Library would be appreciated.
