Heidrick, of Lake Odessa, died suddenly early Wednesday morning, May 17, 2006; he was 87 years old. Irwin was born in Alanson, MI on January 27, 1919 to William and Vera (Gibbs) Heidrick. He moved to Clarksville in a most memorable fashion. In May of 1929 at the age of 10, Irwin's parents wrapped him and the family's pet bird in blankets in the back of their touring car for the long trip south to their new home. Upon arrival, they met the train that had transported all their furniture, household goods, farm implements, horses, cows, calves and chickens in one box car. The train crew had enjoyed fresh eggs and milk on the two day trip according to the neighbor boy who had accompanied the livestock. After unloading the livestock, Irwin and his cousin walked the cows and calves right up Main Street and then west and north four miles to the now Dennis Fahrni farm on Bell Road. Irwin met Yvonne Klingman on a blind date and they were married on October 2, 1942. They have two daughters, Dana Heidrick Nishihara (Lance) of Oakland, CA and Janice Heidrick McCall (Shelly) of Franktown, CO. Irwin and Yvonne moved to their farm in Lake Odessa in 1954. Irwin was a farmer his entire life. He was also a storyteller, a lover of books and cowboy poetry, fishing and traveling. With his wife, Yvonne, Irwin was a lifetime member of both the Clarksville Area Friends of the Library and the Lake Odessa Friends of the Library. They received the State Rural Community Award. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, May 21, 2006 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 22, 2006 at 11 a.m. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to either the Lake Odessa or Clarksville Library.
