Heise, 96, former Woodland resident, died Jan.27, at Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids. Born April 14, 1893, in Woodland, he was the son of Charles and Sophia Smith Heise. He graduated from Hastings high School and was married to the former Mildred Coats in 1921 in Grand Rapids. She died in 1971. They lived and farmed in the Woodland area until 1965 when they retired and moved to Florida. They lived in Florida until 1981, when they moved to the Luther Village Retirement Home in Grand Rapids. He played violin in the Hastings Symphony for several years and in Florida played for the Sarasota, Englewood and Venice symphonies. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Woodland, and of the Farm Bureau. Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Randall of Lowell and Leona H.Allaben of Grand Rapids; two sons, Charles and Arlene Heise of Woodland; five grandchildren and one great-grandson. Preceded in death besides his wife were a grandson, Dennis, and a sister Bertha. Funeral services wi be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday from Koops Funeral Chapel, Lake Odessa, with the Rev. Alan Sellman officiating. A memorial has been established for the Zion Lutheran Church organ fund, in care of the funeral chapel.
