Jackson street. Death was due to a heart ailment and came after only a few hours illness. She was born in Germany in 1860, and came to America and Ionia, Mich. in 1880. In November of that year she was united in marriage with Charles Tafel. Three children were born of this marriage, Mrs. Otto Ruehs Sr., and Amelia Tafel of Ionia and Otto Tafel of Chicago, all of whom survive the mother. Mr. Tafel died in 1890. Mrs. Tafel was married again in 1908 to August Helden who died nine years later. Rev. R. A. Rook of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran church conducted prayer service at the home at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon and the funeral service at the church at 2:00 Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery with six grandsons as pall bearers, Martin, Reinhold, Edward, Louis, Karl and Otto Ruehs, Jr. Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Otto Tafel of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. August Kohagen, and Margaret and Mr. and Mrs. Karl Kohagen of Fowler and Mrs. and Mrs. Charles Helden of South Haven.
