Ionia Sentinel Standard, 11 Mar 1980

Anthony Helderop 48, retired Major in the Michigan Air National Guard of Battle
Creek, died recently while visiting Tampa, Florida.  He was born in Grand
Rapids, April 6, 1931 the son of Anthony and Dorothy (Kellogg) Helderop.  He
came to Battle Creek as a member of the Michigan Air National Guard.  He was a
pilot in the Korean War and retired at the rank of Major in 1975.  He was a
member of Hickory Corners American Legion Post 484, and the Delton V.F.W. Post 422.

Survivors include his wife, the former Geraldine Cunningham; two sons David
Anthony and Kevin Lee Helderop; two daughters, Stephanie Kaye and Karen Lee
Helderop, all at home; his mother Mrs. Dorothy Oriel of Grand Rapids; a brother,
Pastor Richard Helderop of Dorr; and two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Bonnie Lee)
Shattuck and Mrs. Ronald (Beverly) Johnston, of Ionia.

Services were Monday at the Royal Funeral Home in Battle Creek.  A graveside
service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Easton Cemetery, where the Michigan
Air National Guard will hold a flyover under the direction of Col. Strand,
commanding officer of the Michigan Air National Guard.
