Gladys B. Helmer, 79, of 3030 Turkey Trail, Ionia, died at Ionia County 
Memorial Hospital on Oct. 30.  She was born in Lyons on Feb. 1, 1911, the 
daughter of Loren and Maude (Evilsizer) Rhoades.  She married Burton Helmer on 
March 14, 1927, in Ionia; he preceded her in death in 1976.  She worked at 
Ypsilanti-Reed Furniture in Ionia, a tile factory, Ivan Clark Spark Plug, 
Peschke Packing House, Falsetta Food Center, and the Kroger store.

She is survived by two daughters, Bernice Falsetta and Charlotte Gilmore of 
Ionia; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Lawrence 
Rhoades of Muir.  She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Helmer in 
April.

Funeral services will be held at Lake Funeral Home on Friday at 1 p.m. with 
the Rev. Jerry Johnston officiating.  Burial will be in Easton Cemetery.  The 
family will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 
p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Memorials have been established for the Ionia Area Hospice, 
in care of the funeral home.
