Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard, 26 Apr 1976

Mrs. Margaret Helmer, 94, formerly of 1105 Yeomans, died Sunday evening at the
Ionia Manor after being a resident for the past five years.  She was born in
Berlin Township, Ionia county, March 12, 1882, the daughter of James and
Bethelda Cox Sherwood.  She attended rural schools and married Frank Pierce in
1901.  Later she married Charles Helmer in 1911.  He preceded her in death in
1929.  She worked at the Ypsilanti-Reed plant in Ionia and during World War II
worked at the Ionia Manufacturing company.  She also worked at a local
restaurant on Main street.

Surviving are two sons, Leon and Donald of Ionia; one daughter, Mrs. Hazel
Wieczorek of Ionia; one grandchild; four great-grandchildren; one stepson,
Burton Helmer of Ionia; two step-daughters, Mrs. Grace Larson of Ionia and Mrs.
Myrtle Klinger of Tampa, Fla.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Leddick funeral home.  Rev. Nolan
Williams of the Zion United Methodist church will officiate.  Interment will be
at Letts cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home to meet friends and
relatives Monday and Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday afternoon from 2-4 p.m.
