Wayne E. Helmer, age 83, of Saranac passed away May 20, 2014 at his home.  He 
was born November 19, 1930 in Ionia the son of Glen and Mina (Goode) Helmer.  
Wayne married Nancy Cary July 13, 1963.  He was a Merchant Marine serving from 
1952 until 1962. 

Wayne is survived by his loving wife Nancy Helmer of Saranac; son, Kaiser 
(Judy) Downing of Lowell; grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Allers of Greenville, 
Alec Downing of Lowell, Elizabeth Downing of Lowell and Abigail Downing of 
Lowell; great grandchildren, Hayley, Brooke and Ava; brothers, Maynard (Barb) 
Helmer of Ionia and Donald (Deanne) Helmer of Ionia; sister, Beverly Peterson 
of Orleans and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his 
parents; brothers, George, Bud, Thayne and Larry and one sister, Lorraine Cox. 

Funeral services will be held at Day Bible Church, 11 a.m., Friday, May 23 with 
Pastor Frank Lattimore officiating.  Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 
p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac.  Memorial contributions may be made to 
Day Bible Chapel.
