Ionia Sentinel Standard, 2 Dec 1974

Glen L. Helmer, 73, of Bellamy road, Orleans, died late Saturday evening at
Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids where he had been a patient the past ten
days.  He was born at Barryton June 1, 1901, the son of Arthur and Carrie Price
Helmer.  He attended the Helmer rural school near Barryton.  

June 29, 1921, he was married in Ionia to Mina Good.  They made their home on a
farm near Barryton until moving to the Ionia area in 1927.  They lived on a farm
near Muir and also at Lake Odessa before moving to the present address on
Bellamy road and have lived most of their married life in that area.  They
celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1971.

Surviving besides the wife, Mina, are seven sons, Fredrick of Port Huron, Bud of
Ionia, Wayne of Belding, Thane, Maynard and Donald, all of Ionia, and Larry of
Saranac; two daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Cox of Ionia and Mrs. Beverly Peterson of
Belding; 25 grandchildren; seven brothers, Russell of Flint, William of Mecosta,
Bartlett of Remus, Colin of Sears, Harry of Detroit, Gordon of Barryton and
Ralph of Blanchard.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Zion United Methodist church.
 Rev. Nolan Williams will officiate and interment will be at the Easton
cemetery.  Memorial contributions for the Ionia county unit of the American
Cancer society may be left at the Leddick funeral home where members of the
family will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
