Lelia F. Helmes, 74, of Ionia passed away Thursday, June 1, 2006. She was 
born the daughter of William H. and Lillian (Barron) Trotter on February 1, 
1932 in Kerrville, TN. Lelia was member of the Sky Hawk Skydivers in Ionia 
and enjoyed gardening and loved her flowers. She was preceded in death by 
her husband, Melvin "Woody Helmes, parents, and brothers-in-law, Gene Gullet 
and Lawrence Armstrong. 

Surviving are a son, Terry A. Helmes of Vickeryville, 2 daughters, Deborah 
(Fred) Sheaffer of Orleans and Beverly Lynn Bissell of Ionia; 10 
grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Betty Lou (John) Downs of 
Millington, TN, Edith Armstrong of Millington, TN and Katherine (Jim) Rauch 
of Houston, TX.

Private family services will be held at a later date. For those wishing, 
memorial contributions may be made to Ionia Area Hospice in memory of Lelia 
F. Helmes. Complete arrangements are being handled by Schrauben-Lehman 
Funeral Home, Ionia. Online condolences may be made at
