Ethelyn was born on October 30, 1941 in Otisco Township, the daughter of Alvin L. and Bernice A. (Brooks) Helms. She graduated from Ionia High School with the Class of 1960 and then earned her Associate and Bachelor degrees from Ferris State Institute, now Ferris State University. She worked for the State of Michigan for nearly 30 years, first as an accountant and later as a social worker. Ethelyn enjoyed shopping, dining out and living on the family farm for many years until the severity of her disabilities claimed the use of her legs. She then went to live in the adult foster care home of Sandy and Dave Fennell, where she enjoyed more good years in their loving care. She attended Shiloh Community Church. Ethelyn is loved and survived by her sisters and brother; Ann (Jerry) Adair of Altha, Florida, Alvin (Ruth Ann) Helms of Greenville, Lila Lake and Larry Treynor of Belding, her nieces and nephews; Annette Helms, Gidgetta (Thomas) Roger, Gerald (Jennifer) Adair and her special friends; Barb Edwards, Fred Rowley and Sandy and Dave Fennell. Ethelyn was preceded by her parents, a brother Harold and a sister Susan both in infancy; and one niece Amy Helms. In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Shiloh Community Church with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at church. Memorials may be given to Shiloh Community Church. Private burial will be in Greene Cemetery, Belding. Funeral care and cremation services have been entrusted to Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding.
