He was still sitting in the seat in an upright position when it landed several feet away. State police of the Ionia post said the dead man is Lawrence A. Helms. 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Helms, route two. He was riding alone in his pickup truck. Driver of the automobile involved was Lee C. Cook, 18, of route three. Both drivers were taken to the Ionia County Memorial hospital by ambulance. Helms was dead upon arrival. R.H. Dodes, justice of the peace, who acted as coroner, said Helms died of head injuries, hemorrhage and a broken neck. ------------ Funeral service for Lawrence (Larry) Helms, 20, who died Saturday was conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Evangelical United Brethren church with the Rev. Ray R. Fassett officiating. Prayer service was held at the home at 1:15. Organist was Mrs. Oren Schmidt. Bearers were Charles Lange, Gary Bensinger, Jim Sheaffer, Dale Clark, Bruce Stedman and Gary Dickerson. Thirty members of Ionia 4-H Saddle club paid special tribute and acted as honorary escorts. Interment was at Balcom cemetery. Out of town persons attending included Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd G. Stearns and sons of Brighton; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wagner of Sheridan, Mr. and Mrs. William Bills and Mrs. Dale Signs of Crystal; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kraft and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Spiece of Carson City; Frank Helms, Donald Helms and Mrs. Florence McCabe of Martin; Mrs. Wreatha Pearson, Phyllis and Gerald and Mrs. Leo Pearson of Lowell; Mildred Lowe and Gene, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clifford and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Robinson of Belding; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hagidas, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Hock, Mr. and Mrs. Elizha Clifford and Mrs. Anna McQueen of Greenville; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hubbard of Harrison, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Hubbard and family and Mr. and Mrs. William Marshall and family of Orleans, Mrs. Lula Thornton of Elsie, Mrs. Bernice Allen of Wheeler, Mrs. Dorothy Waldron of Breckenridge, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cusick of Hubbardston, Mr. and Mrs. David Helms of St. Johns, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Helms and family of Palo, Mrs. Dale Sinclair of Sidney and Sgt.
