He was born in Sheridan, May 8, 1893 the son of Arthur J. and Kittie Jennings Hemingway. In 1901 the family moved to Ionia where they had made their home since. He attended school in Ionia and left to play professional baseball in 1909. He played in the major leagues for New York, Chicago, St. Louis and Cincinnati, all in National league. Before finishing his career in the Pacific Coast league prior to and during the early part of World War II he served with the Merchant Marines. He then worked as a construction site housing manager on projects on Guam and Greenland. He then went to work with the Hammond Lumber company in Northern California in the redwood forest before retiring and returning to Ionia in 1963. There are no immediate survivors. Services will be at the Boynton Leddick funeral home Tuesday at 3 pm. Rev. A.R. Gallert of St. Johns Lutheran church will officiate. Committal services will be at the funeral home. Final interment will be at Sheridan cemetery.
