He was born June 19, 1947 in Lansing, the son of Raymond W. and Elsie M. (Smith) Hemminger. Stanley graduated from Portland High School in 1965. He worked for many years at American Bumper and Meridian Automotive until having to retire due to health reasons. He was self-taught musically and was able to play keyboard, trombone and clarinet. Stanley is survived by his father, Raymond W. (Dorothy) Hemminger of Oregon; step-father Seymour VanDerske of Lyons; sons, Stanley (Char) Hemminger Jr. of Muir, Kevin Scott (Elizabeth) Hemminger of the Philippines, Tim Hemminger and Rachel Hornsby of Greenville; best friend Janet Hemminger of Ionia; step children Vicki Sweet of Ionia, and Michael (Angie) Laux of Ionia; brother Ray (Kelly) Hemminger of Portland; half brothers Edward (Sandra) VanDerske of Las Vegas, David (Kathy) VanDerske of Portland, Tom (Jackie) VanDerske of Lyons, John (Susan) VanDerske of Nashville, and Steve (Andrea) VanDerske of Lyons; half sister, Laurel (Joe) Carponelli of Las Vegas; grandchildren Isabella, Gabriella, Christian, Javin, Jennifer, Tim Jr. and Marcus; step grandchildren Bradley and Daniel; several nieces and nephews; and his special dogs, Patch and Peppy. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie in 1999. Memorial Services for Stanley will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5 at the First Christian Church in Muir with Pastor Greg Gladding officiating.
