The Ionia Daily Sentinel, Thursday, November 20, 1980
Portland.  Hal Hendee, 86, of 325 Academy Street, died Tuesday at Kent 
Community Hospital.  He as born March 20, 1894 in Shepherd, the son of Ira and 
Nora Hendee.  He was a retired farmer, World War I veteran and member of VFW 
Post 4090.

Mr. Hendee is survived by three sons, Fred and Robert of Portland, and Raymond 
of Park Ridge, Illinois; two daughters, Mrs. Gay Stafford of Orinda, 
California, and Mrs. Arlene Thelen of Fowler; 14 grandchildren and four great-
grandchildren. One son, Dewayne, preceded him in death in 1947.  His wife, 
Lula, preceded him in death in 1964.  

Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Neller Funeral Home, with the 
Rev. Errol Jameson of Portland Baptist Church officiating.  Burial will be in 
Portland Cemetery.  Graveside services will be conducted by Portland VFW Post 
4090.
