The following spring the family came to Ionia county, Michigan working on the farm of Sanford Yoemans. Eighty years ago they bought the farm in section 13 of Odessa Township which became the Henderson home. "Aunt Mate" as she was best known in her neighborhood attended school in the Bippley district, worked as a cook in a lumber camp at Trufant, and at the early death of her mother became the homemaker for her family. She took as active interest in her neighborhood and the lives of her brother John's six children who lived on an adjoining farm. Good health was hers until a few years ago when stricken with partial blindness. This affliction she bore with patience and it was not until February of this year that she was confined to her bed. Her parents were members of the Blackfriars Congregation of the United Presbyterian church of Scotland, and her life exemplified their faith. Since the death of her brother, Archie, she ha made her home with Irwin and Mildred Hall (her niece), where in the early morning of June 19 she quietly slept away to be with her Maker. Preceding her in death besides her parents were three sisters, Isabelle Hiller, Anges Holcomb, and Elizabeth Daniels, and brothers John and Archie Henderson. Surviving are nephews Ernest Hiller of Charlevoix, James Henderson of Lansing, and Robert Daniels of California; Nieces Jeanette Haynes and Marian Henderson of Detroit, Mildred Hall of Lake Odessa, Florence Edkardt of Woodland, and Olive Henderson of Lansing, besides a number of grand nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends. Compensation -- Edgar Guest. I'd like to think that here and there, When I am gone, there shall remain. A happier spot that might not existed Had I toiled for gain. That someone's cheery voice and smile, Shall prove, that I had been worthwhile; That I had paid with some thing fine My debt to God, for life divine." Funeral services were held at the Pickens chapel on Monday, June 21 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Charles S. Rennels of Hickery Corners officiating. Burial was in Lakeside. Henderson -- We wish to thank Re. Charles S. Rennells for his comforting message, neighbors and friends for every act of kindness extended us, ant the Pickens brothers for their understanding manner during the loss of our dear Aunt Mary Henderson.
