Hendrick an old pioneer of Vergennes was born July 12, 1842 and came to Michigan with his parents at the age of 18 and settled in Lyons, Ionia County, from where he enlisted, serving in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 6th Cavalry, February 16, 1862, and was honorably discharged in July 1864. He was married to Lucy M. Clark in Lyons June 26, 1864, and moved to Vergennes in 1866 and lived there until 1887, when they moved to Bushnell, Montcalm County. To them were born twelve children of which one died at the age of 6 years the rest surviving them, his wife died April 4, 1907, at the age of 62 years. She was born at Harbor Creek, Erie County, Penn. He was taken suddenly ill on Wednesday, November 20, and died Friday, November 22, at 9:15 p.m., 1912. Both are buried in Palo Cemetery, funeral service was held at the home of his son Allen, near Shilo, where he died conducted by the Baptist minister of Palo.
