Oct. 13, 2018 GREGORY R. HENDRICK, 65 George R. Hendrick, age 65, of Lake Odessa, died October 6, 2018. Mr. Hendrick was born August 28, 1953 in Grand Rapids, a son of Royce and Lois (Bever) Hendrick. Greg graduated from Saranac High School in 1971. During his high school time he entered a contest to design an emblem for the Michigan Grand River Watershed Council to promote Steam Appreciation month. Greg at 16, was awarded first place and $50 for his design. He enjoyed playing tennis, washing cars for income and dirt bike riding. His first employment at the end of high school was with McDonalds in Grand Rapids and was able to buy his first Chevy Nova. Greg moved on to Universal Products (Saranac), August 27, 1971, and made inspector, March, 1973, and promoted to second shift time keeper. On August 27, 1977 he began work at Meijer distribution center in Lansing, starting in the warehouse and then took training to become a truck driver for Meijer, which he did for over 40 years. Greg met Victoria Hatt in September 1977. They were married in 1980 at LeValley Methodist Church by Rev. Willis Braun. The couple loved camping, riding motorcycles and visiting the lake for fishing and swimming. They were blessed with two daughters, Amanda (1981) and Gretchen (1986). Greg loved being a full-time Daddy and being with his babies. He shared his love of animals with them and took his family on many trips. In 1989 Greg and Victoria were offered a trip to Europe with her family. In 1996 they decided to build a new home in Lake Odessa. The whole family, along with Grandpa Hatt, Helped. Ice and boat fishing, catching bass, motor sport racing, riding bikes, playing with pets and cleaning his newly acquired 67 Nova were a few of his hobbies.He helped the children with rabbit 4-H, school outings and playing games. Greg always impressed on the children the importance of being kind to animals and taught them to appreciate nature. A favorite time for the family was a trip to Rice Lake in Canada and camping along the way. He loved his job as a truck driver and that he could be home every day. Attending the children's activities and spending time with his wife were his highest priorities. He spent time with friends from work and his childhood. Greg greatly valued these friendships. Surviving are his wife, Victoria; daughters, Amanda Hendrick and Gretchen (Mike) Hendrick Gardella; father, Royce Hendrick; brother, Doug (Nancy) Hendrick; sister, Jill (Kurt) Mumro; nieces a & Nephews, including, Brandon, Erica, Jon, Dan, Mike, Jason, Marisa, Josh, Jon and Lydia; special cousin, Judy Wells. A gathering of family and friends will be held 3-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, 2341 W. Grand Ledge Hwy., Mulliken, MI. 48861. Dress attire; casual clothing (racing shirt, cap, etc would be great).
