Heppe, 85, of Meade Road, Orleans, died Friday at Sheridan Community Hospital. He was born August 12, 1895 in Cullom, Ill., the son of John and Anna Dock Heppe. He served with the U.S.Army during World War I, and married Elizabeth Schramm Oct. 15, 1919 in Ionia. They made their home in rural Orleans. His wife preceded him in death July 17, 1979. Mr. Heppe was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Ionia Elks Club, the Gleaners, World War I Veterans Barracks, the Farm Bureau and the Belding Sportsman Club. Survivors include three sons, Vernon, Harvey and Robert, all of Orleans; two daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Katherine) Kenter of Orleans and Mrs. Stephen (Mildred) Hartman of Ionia; 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Moon of Ionia and Mrs. Anna Becker of Illinois. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 pm from the Leddick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Luther Brokaw of Belding officiating. Burial will be in the Higbee Cemetery. Military graveside services will be provided by the Sheridan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. A memorial fund has been established for the Orleans Methodist Church and may be left at the funeral home.
