She was born on Dec. 6, 1926 in Palo, the daughter of Lewis and Nevene (Moore) Hatinger. She married the later Vernon W. Heppe on Aug. 2, 1947. Mrs. Heppe spent over 50 years working along with her husband on their farm. She was well known for her beautiful and delicious wedding cakes. She volunteered at Ionia Public Schools, tutored students at Boyce School, and was the best homeroom mother – teachers always respected her. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband in 2004; siblings, Llewella Ostrander, Georgia Sargent, and Weston Hatinger. Surviving are her children, Carol (Richard Dees) Heppe of Okeana, Ohio, Garald Heppe of Orleans, and Jayne (Jeff) Johnson of Ionia; grandchildren, Jennifer Heppe of Atlanta, Georgia, Michael (Heather) Heppe of Atlanta, Georgia, Emily Johnson of Warren, Michigan, Jason Dees of Milford, Ohio and Kathleen Dees of Okeana, Ohio; great grandchildren, Perry Heppe and Sarah Heppe both of Atlanta, Georgia; brother, Bud (Carroll) Hatinger; sister, Janet (Robert) Peabody; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Heppe, Lucille Heppe, Katherine (Steve) Kenter and Susie Hatinger; and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be conducted by Rev. Tom Harris at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 at Shiloh Community Church. Interment will be in the spring at Higbee Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia.
