W.F. Kendrick in charge. Mr. Herbert, who lived on the VanSickle farm, three miles northeast of the city, died suddenly Sunday afternoon in the Prairie creek vicinity while driving his automobile towards town. His sister, Mrs. Mabel Greenman, who was a passenger in the machine, noticed it weaving from its path and discovered her brother had slumped at the wheel. The car came to a halt some 40 feet away in a deep snowbank without incurring any damage or injuring its occupants, Mr. Herbert having turned off the ignition when he felt his illness coming on. Although he had been receiving treatments for heart trouble for some time, Mr. Herbert had been in apparently good health the past few days. He was 64 years of age. Mrs. Herbert died 27 years ago and the past 26 years, Mrs. Greenman, whose husband also is dead, had lived with him. They had been on the VanSickle place six years. Besides Mrs. Greenman, a son, Charles, Jr., survives him in California, together with another sister, Mrs. Florence Thunder, of Marshall, and a brother, Harry, of Battle Creek.
