From Tuesday’s Banner. The remains of Mrs. Charles Herbert of Chicago were brought to this city this morning on the 8:17 train for interment beside a former husband whose remains are buried in the old cemetery in this place. Accompanying the remains were the husband, Charles Herbert of Chicago, three sons of the deceased – Clement, Austin and Arthur Dexter – and Mrs. Alice Walker, a sister, all of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. John Stanton of Hart, and Louis Herbert of Grand Rapids. Mr. and Mrs. John Morton of Alma reached here on the 10:36 train. The deceased was a former resident of this city and many will remember her as the wife of Jay Dexter who was burned to death in a fire which destroyed a livery barn in this city a number of years ago. She was also a sister of Mrs. Smith Nichols who resides northeast of this city. Mrs. Herbert was the beloved wife of Chas. Herbert of 471 Washington Boulevard, Chicago and died at her home in that city on Saturday evening January 16th after an illness of only eight days of Pneumonia. Mrs. Herbert was a member of Daughters of Columbian Knights, Court Vernon No 12 of Chicago, and the beautiful floral offerings that accompanied the remains told how truly the members of that society loved the sister now lying in the cold embrace of death. She carried $1000 insurance in that order. Besides the husband and three sons, deceased leaves behind to mourn her loss, four sisters and an aged mother who formerly lived in this city but is now a resident of Chicago. Loving friends accompanied the remains to the burial place this afternoon and after a short service conducted by Rev. J.E. Butler they were laid away to await the final summons in that last great day.
