Oct. 3, 2012 Richard L. Herron, 84, of New Port Richey, Fla., died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, in Lakeland, Fla. Richard was born Oct. 21, 1928, in Emerson Township, Ithaca, the son of Leo S. and Pearl (Sanders) Herron. He graduated from high school in Ionia and began working for General Motors Co., from which he later retired. During the early 1960's he was part owner of the Rainbow Lanes bowling alley. Following his retirement, Richard moved to the Turks and Caicos islands where he managed a beach front resort for several years. Richard thoroughly enjoyed life. He loved bowling and golf, and watching all sports on TV. He loved to drive his sports cars, of which he owned several. Richard is survived by his sons, Robert (Joans) Heron of Groveland, Calif., and Dennis (Laurie) Herron of Lakeland, Fla.; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; his nieces, Cathy and Pearl; his nephews, Bill and Tim; and his best friend, Kipper, his yorkie. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers and sisters, Kenneth, Stuart, Maxine and Barbara. Funeral services will be graveside in Ithaca Cemetery, Ithaca, at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, with Pastor Cindi Greene officiating. The family is being served by the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca.
