The son of Don Earl Hershberger and Debbie Sue Salyer, he was born Sept. 16, 1981, in Grand Rapids. A 1999 graduate of Greenville High School, Derick worked in road construction for C. Slagter Construction Co. and was to be promoted to foreman in the spring. Derick enjoyed hunting, listening to country music and most of all spending time with his family. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. Engaged to Lynsey Keyes, they looked forward to marriage and were finalizing the purchase of their first home. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Wilbur “Buck” Salyer, Roy Hershberger; and uncle, Bruce Hershberger. He is survived by his fiancé, Lynsey Keyes of Cedar Springs; mother, Debbie Salyer and Jerry Tanis of Rockford; Don and Sandy Hershberger of Ravenna; brother, David and Angie Hershberger of Sand Lake; two sisters, Danielle Bennett of Lakeview, Deanna and Jon Collin of Mount Pleasant; stepbrother, Kevin Kimble of Ravenna; stepsister, Lori and Tony Bennett of Howard City; grandparents, Myrna and Junior Avery of Cedar Springs, Delores Hershberger of Port Charlotte, Fla.; great-grandmother, Cora Lay of Cedar Springs; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Family Life Center Church of God, 8683 Storey Road, Belding (one block north of Fisk Road on M-91) with the Rev. William L. Overton, pastor of Family Life Center, and Pastor Sean Kidd officiating. Burial will follow in Greene Cemetery near Orleans. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin St., Greenville, where envelopes for memorial contributions will be available.
