Hessler, 92, of Belding, died Sunday morning, Feb. 24, 2013, at Metron of Belding. John was born in Grattan on June 5, 1920, the son of William and Maude (Mason) Hessler. John graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1938 and later proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He served on the battleship Pennsylvania fighting in the Pacific Theater. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the American Legion Post 203, Belding. John married June Ridler in Belding on June 28, 1941, and she survives along with their children, Sandy (Terry) Wallin of Canadian Lakes, Terry (Kathy) Hessler of Greenville; two grandchildren, Greg (Brenda) Wallin and Jeff (Jeannette) Wallin; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded by his parents and four brothers, Lyle, Paul, Ed and Frank. Funeral and committal services will be noon Monday, March 4, at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Legion Post 203, American Cancer Society or the Belding Museum.
